"Opinion: My family lost our beloved uncle, brother, and husband. During this very sad time, we hired Daniels Funeral Home to handle funeral arrangements. When we questioned one line item of the billing – a $375 charge for “graveside services” – we were treated horribly. Specifically, I called regarding what specific services they would be providing at graveside. When I spoke to the funeral Director she said it was in the event the family needed anything graveside. I explained we did not need any services graveside since we had everything covered. I told her we paid for the hearst and for the mileage; however, we did not need any assistance graveside. So, I asked her to explain what services they would provide at the graveside for $375. She could not detail the services. She asked if I wanted to speak to manager. I spoke to manager and once again I asked to detail what the charge for “graveside services” included. He just said that if the family needed anything they were there to provide graveside services. No explanation as to what this meant. I told him we had taken care of details and did not need any “services” from them once my uncle’s body was taken to the gravesite. Instead of explaining the charges he rudely told me “you can transport the body yourselves.” Is this HOW you treat a grieving family? I told him we paid for the transportation and the mileage – I just would like an explanation of what “graveside services mean” and why the $375 charge. Again, he could only say “if the family needs any assistance graveside.” This is NOT an explanation. I once again told him the family had everything taken care of once my uncle’s body was taken to the gravesite. My only question was WHAT WILL YOU PROVIDE AT THE GRAVESITE THAT COSTS US $375? Instead of giving me an explanation he told me I was being difficult. From a business perspective, this is wrong. No explanation, no condolences! Insensitive, rude, and very unprofessional. Although the manager finally agreed to a refund, their attitude caused great mental anguish to our family."
